2016 Volnay 1. Cru Taillepieds Ballot Millot

Volnay is perhaps the most famous appellation for red wine in the Côte de Beaune.

The style ranges from the elegant, refined and almost "feminine" from the heart of the town, to the more rustic fields to the northeast, bordering Pommard.

There is no Grand Cru maker here, but rather a number of world-class 1. Cru parcels that deliver impressive quality for the money, as the appellation is often overshadowed by the more famous appellations of Côte de Nuits.

This means you can make some superb buys here.

Taillepieds is one of the most sought-after Volnay 1. Cru at the moment, it is one of the steepest parcels in the commune and has, perhaps for this reason, historically not garnered as much praise as neighboring parcels. However, advances in winemaking methods and the slightly warmer climate have put this 1. Cru at the top of what Volnay can achieve.

Ballot-Millot uses 20 - 30% whole bunches in its vinification to achieve maximum balance.
